EMDR Intensive Sessions

What is EMDR therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) "is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories." (referenced from: https://www.emdria.org/about-emdr-therapy/)

EMDR allows our brains to associate new information with past negative events and traumas. This allows our connection with the trauma the be re-worked, often relieving our fight, flight, and freeze responses. Thus, allowing our brain to begin the healing process. EMDR is used to treat trauma, depression, anxiety, phobias, panic disorder, and many other issues.

How do EMDR intensives work?

Research shows that EMDR intensive therapy is an effective tool at treating symptoms related to trauma and other stressors from negative life events. Instead of the traditional 50 minute, weekly sessions, EMDR intensive therapy allows for months of work to be completed in much shorter timespans. The extended sessions promote quicker reprocessing of traumatic events and allows for faster symptom reduction and healing.

There are different ways that an EMDR intensive sessions can be set up, which are explained below under pricing.

What are the benefits of EMDR Intensive Therapy?
  • Longer processing sessions, allowing for more therapeutic work to be done in a shorter timespan with less breaks

  • A reduction in the overall amount of time in therapy

  • A quicker reduction of symptoms which which reduces the amount of time living with negative symptoms
